Welcome to our refreshed blog site!

When we retired in 2012, we documented and shared our adventures as we traveled and explored our beautiful country for eight years while living full-time in an RV we named Betsy. This was how our blog site was born. We then sold our beloved “house on wheels” and have taken root in a sticks-and-bricks home in Arizona. Since then, our travel goals have been focused on seeing what’s out there in the rest of this big world. We’re now exploring as many countries as we can while we still can!

Our RV Travels

By September of 2016 we had achieved our goal of exploring all 49 states (Betsy can’t do Hawaii!).  In Canada we wandered through 8 provinces and 1 territory (Yukon), and in Mexico we headed across Sonora twice for extended beach parties.  We’ve traveled through 6 time zones and crossed the borders between the U.S, Canada and Mexico 30 times.  That was one heck of an adventure!

Here are a few snippets of our adventures.

  • Bearfooting in the Kenai Peninsula

We completed our “bear footing” (having a good time), in Alaska’s playground – the Kenai Peninsula. It left us full of wonderful experiences and spectacular scenery.  The bountiful wildlife in the peninsula borough allowed us to meet the real locals (critters) in Cooper Landing.  We got hooked, we clammed and then…

  • Rivers of Ice, Knik Glacier – Palmer, Alaska

From Portage we drove to the east on the scenic Glenn Highway and spent a few days in Palmer  located 42 miles northeast of Anchorage. This town is  considered as the garden hub of Alaska due to its microclimate which produces amazing giant vegetables but we missed seeing most…

  • Land of ice and rock – Portage Valley

We back-tracked on the Seward Highway heading north.  The drive on Seward Highway, which is designated as National Scenic Byway, would have been spectacular for the scenery it offers along the way.  The highway winds along the coast and through two separate mountain passes, Chugach and Kenai Mountains.  But…

  • Oh so famous Lake Louise – Alberta, Canada

Oh so famous Lake Louise – Alberta, Canada

Our final stop in the Canadian Rockies was ever-popular and very crowded Lake Louise.  Located in Banff National Park, it’s one of the best known lakes in the Rocky Mountains. Even a little girl we met in Montana gushed with excitement when she overheard me mentioning it to her parents.…

  • Hitting the trails at Big Bend NP

Hitting the trails at Big Bend NP

Seeing Big Bend National Park by car gave us some broad impressions, but it wasn’t until we pulled on our hiking boots and followed some trails that we could really let the beautiful surroundings engulf us.  Hiking is always our favorite way to experience places up close, and with hundreds of miles of…

  • Hiking Colorado National Monument – Fruita, CO

Hiking Colorado National Monument – Fruita, CO

The Rim Rock Drive at Colorado National Monument was a convenient way to admire the iconic red sandstone landmarks there, and to peer into the gaping canyons. (Read post here)  After doing that for a few hours it was time to lace up our boots and hit the trails.  There was a…
