Meramec State Park –
October, 2014
The Lowe’s overall rating = 9 out of 10 stars
Noise level and overall “feel” of the park?
This great campground is several miles away from the freeway
and very quiet. The camp hosts were friendly and helpful, and
they upgraded us from our reserved electric-only site to a
water and electric site upon our arrival.
Road and site access/type?
All paved, and in pretty good shape. Some sharp turns made it
a bit challenging for larger motorhomes and 5th wheels.
Spaciousness/levelness of sites?
Our site (#121) was paved, with the surface somewhat beat up.
But to my surprise it turned out to be perfectly level! Plenty of
space between sites, and our pull-through site was long enough
to get the car and RV off the road.
Utilities and WiFi/cell reception?
We were able to get a 50-amp site with water, both were adequate.
The Verizon signal to our phones and amplified Hotspot was good.
Picnic table and/or fire pit?
Both were provided, and the office sold firewood.
Facilities – bathrooms/showers/laundry room?
Showers and bathrooms were dated, but clean. The showers had
benches and hooks available for toiletries, but the water pressure
was not so good. A bit unusual for state parks, this one had a
laundry room and it consisted of 2 washers, 2 dryers and a folding
table. Nice!
Pet and/or kid friendly?
Kids and pets were welcome, as usual in state parks. No pools or
other activities are provided for the kids, but lots of space for them
to run around and do what kids like to do.
Bike/walking trails nearby?
There were several walking trails within this large park, one of the
reasons we are rating it so high. Although we only hiked here and
didn’t ride our bikes, there are enough roads through and around the
park for a good ride and lots of other people did just that.
Grocery stores and other services nearby?
Another big plus, there is a Walmart Supercenter just a few miles
away, and a Lowe’s and other services right in the area.
Comments:
This park is full of mature trees and beautiful. Although busy with
families over the weekend, we were in an area that was fairly quiet.
And during the week we were in heaven – quiet at the site and we never
saw anyone else while hiking. I highly recommend this place and would
definitely come back if in the area.
