Noise level and overall “feel” of the park?
This is a busy, noisy city park – make no mistake about it.
With the city pool next door the kids were having a blast.
If you are looking for a place in the area with lots of quiet
and shady trees, this is not it.  But it served our purpose
during the time we had to run around to get some work
done on our RV in the area.  The manager was very helpful,
trying to accommodate our request for a different site and
letting us look around before committing.

Road and site access/type?
Interior roads are a mix of paved and gravel, with the sites
being gravel.  Access into the park is a bit challenging for
large rigs, and our GPS instructed us to take a few small
streets with very low-hanging branches that we did not
like.  We came down 12th street from the west and took
Kentucky Ave, because the smaller streets had untrimmed
trees.  DO NOT get stuck on State Street as you go to the
park, as it has a bridge with about a 12′ clearance that will
not work with large rigs.

Spaciousness/levelness of sites?
There are many sites that didn’t look level, but ours (#B8)
was pretty close and in the full-hookup section.  Because
we were getting some work done on the coach we liked our
site near the front of the park, but there were several sites
further into the property that looked nice with no sewer
hookups.

Utilities and WiFi/cell reception?
Our 50-amp power was strong, as was the water pressure.
The Verizon signal to our cell phones and amplified hotspot
was not so good – 3 bars at the most.

Picnic table and/or fire pit?
Both, the table was super-strong and the fire pit nice and
well located within the site.

Bathrooms/showers/laundry room?
The new building/tornado shelter was great, with modern
restrooms and showers.  There were also 2 washers and
and 2 dryers with a folding table that worked well for us.

Pet and/or kid friendly?
There was a huge city pool next door to the park, so the
kids were thrilled, but not much for pets here except the
option of walking them around the park on-leash.

Bicycle/walking trails nearby?
There was a park with several miles of walking trails
right next to the RV park, and that was a big plus for us.
We also drove a few miles to the nearby Pine Creek
Nature Center, which was loaded with good walking
trails.  Not so much for bikers, though, since most of
the area around the park is residential.

Grocery stores and other services nearby?
The grocery store was a few minutes away by car.  Mason
City is a small town, so it may be difficult to get other
services performed close by.  If you have a Winnebago
or Itasca coach you are in good shape, with the factory
being located about 30 miles away in Forest City.

Comments:
We have learned recently that city parks are busy with
tightly-packed sites, but they seem to have good utilities
and are an acceptable place to spend a few days.  They
certainly aren’t a place to go it you want to be off on your
own in the quiet, but neither are state parks during the
summer months.  This one was OK as a home base
during the time we had work done on our motorhome.
