Gulf State Park Campground

The Lowe’s overall rating = 10 out of 10 stars

April, 2014

This wonderful park that gets our first “10” since we began full timing 2 years ago. Although very large with almost 500 sites, it was equipped to handle a lot of campers with over a dozen bath houses, many trash dump locations, and several large activity areas. These included a pool, volleyball courts, tennis courts, activity center, nature center, and miles of paved and unpaved paths for biking and walking. The internal roads and large sites were paved and level. They were also spaced quite far apart and all had strong 50-amp full hookups and nice tables. No fire pits, unfortunately. The Verizon phone coverage was good, and our amplified MiFi unit signal was adequate. The laundry room featured over 25 washers and 25 dryers, but in a place this size it got quite busy at times. Bathrooms and showers were clean, and the showers had benches and hooks for toiletries and towels. The staff was friendly and helpful, even though they were always extremely busy. There were nice grocery stores and many restaurants within a 10-minute drive of the park. The streets were busy with lots of kids and bikes moving around, but everyone seemed to be having a good time. We stayed 3 weeks and found it was much cheaper to pay the monthly rate. If you stay a week or two your daily rate will be somewhat higher. The monthly rate is only offered during the winter months, after that the stay is apparently limited to 2 weeks.

Don't be shy, drop us a line.
