Lowes Travels

From California we crossed southwest into Boulder City, our only stop in Nevada this Fall.  Our dear friends John and Pam had put down stakes in a beautiful house here over a year ago.  They may have a “real” home now ,but they’re still far from hanging up the RV keys.  In fact, we last met up with them in Jackpot, Nevada in June where they reiterated their invitation to come and visit them on our southward trek.

Thankfully our route this Fall led us in their direction.  Steve appreciated instructions from “the locals” to get fuel in the area while avoiding the insane Las Vegas traffic.  Just before crossing into Nevada we made a right turn onto Nipton Road, to I95N, to Boulder City.   It was a new route for us as we passed through dense Joshua tree forests while driving across the Mojave Desert.

Heading down I95 to our campground at Lake Mead RV Village, the recreational lake that we had enjoyed on our previous visit came into view.  If Hoover Dam is in your future, here’s a peek at our adventures at this man-made marvel.  We also zipped and floated around this beautiful place on the same visit.

After hooking up and freshening up, we were excited to get over to John and Pam’s place for dinner!

We toured their beautiful home and loved the back yard with its freshly-refurbished pool and awesome lighting.  We also approved of their choice of our favorite colors for the pool – green and blue!  It was a great evening, catching up over Pam’s delicious Paella.  We were so engrossed in conversation that I forgot to take a single picture – practically unheard of for me 🙂

The following morning we met up to hike one of their favorite nearby trails, the Liberty Bell Arch Trail.  Ever since we all first met in July 2013, and whenever our paths have crossed  –  whether it be in Colorado, Arizona, Utah, California or now in Nevada – we’ve always enjoyed our common interest of hiking together.  In short, we think these are some really cool folks!

The rolling terrain we followed up to the arch was moderately strenuous and accounted for most of the elevation change in excess of 1000′.  We passed an old manganese mine and then paused to view the arch as we continued on to the Colorado plateau at the highest point of our hike.  The arch is so named for its resemblance to the Liberty Bell, which is now on display at Independence National Historic Park in Pennsylvania – John and Pam’s original home state.

Hiking around the area of the mine shafts became an adventure of its own!

Back on track, we continued:

After the hike, they took us to a park where dozens of Bighorn Sheep graze with no concern for the people taking pictures of them:

Our three-day visit flew by, and these gracious locals showed us a good time.  We’re so happy they’ve found their little piece of heaven here in Boulder City!
