We have crossed another milestone. Two years ago today, on March 1, 2012, we embarked on our new lifestyle of living on the road. One of our many goals was to continue to exercise and be active. Building on what I began last year, and to commemorate our 2nd year of full timing, I have compiled our new set of favorite hike/walk trails. This top ten list covers the trails we explored between March 1, 2013 and Feb 28, 2014. It does not include the dozens of beach walks we took while on the east coast. Although we love long walks on the beach, they tend to be fairly similar and we decided not to try to rate them.
Our criteria has remained the same, and that is: (1) the trail had an awesome reward at the end (2) the trail was well-maintained and (3) the experience along the way was memorable. These trails were fairly short, and some even overlapped each other – unlike the ones we blazed out West.
Below are our top ten favorite hiking/walking experiences. Clicking on the name of the trail will take you to a website that describes it further. The “Click related post here” link will take you to our posting that included the hike/walk.

How about you? Do you have a favorite hiking trail to share with us and our friends who might be there one day?
You did manage to find some hikes in the various places you visited here in the east. I think my favorite hikes that you posted about were the ones you did at Niagara Falls. Boy, you certainly can’t begin to compare them to the west for sure.
This is a great share for all those starting out… and congrats on one year on the trail… what an envious life you live…
Thanks Bulldog, life is good.
Unlike your anniversary list last year, I have not done any of the trails on your list this year! Still don’t know when (or if) we will make it to the East. Luckily we have great stories in your blog to take us there! Happy anniversary!
Give East the chance to show some of its gems. Our hikes this year isn’t as great as what you have in the West. But will be there in time and like you I will just hike out West through you.
Great post. We have not been on any of these.
We really loved Sabino Canyon in the Santa Catalina Mountains, Phoneline Trail. This one is in Tucson. You can read about it here http://wheresweaver.blogspot.com/search/label/Arizona…Tucson
Thanks Pam, yes we hiked the Phoneline trail but will surely revisit it when we get back to the west.
You sure managed to find some real beauties. Looking forward to your 2014 discoveries 🙂
The East isn’t’ really that bad, there are some hidden gems out here.
Another year of posts! I was still working, getting the ducks lined up for us to hit the road when I started following you. We are hitting our one year mark this week and haven’t looked back. Isn’t this an awesome way to enjoy life? I love your blog and look forward to what else you two discover as you jam on down the road!
Thanks Cheryl, i know the feeling when hitting the first year. Congratulations too, and you did AK on your first year like we did. Way to go!
Thank you for compiling such a great list! We may be heading to Nova Scotia this year, and will keep your list handy. We’ve spent a lot of time in the west, and while we love hiking in Arches, Zion, the Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone, some of our favorite hikes have been in lesser known areas, such as Cedar Mesa, Escalante, and Canyonlands. Here are a few links: http://www.ravenandchickadee.com/2013/11/exploring-cedar-mesa/

Happy Hiking! 🙂
Thank you, Ill keep a note of this hikes as it will probably happen in a couple years. We will be in the midwest this year.
Happy Anniversary on these two years of sharing your dreams and adventures together with all of us! As always…beautiful photos!
Thank You JoAnne. This lifestyle is amazing and affording us to go anywhere we want.
Great hikes and photos. I want to go on those hikes. Tell Steve to look at this new NERSC 40 year anniversary web page: http://www.nersc.gov/nersc-40/anniversary-news/
Keep on RVin in the free world!! Enjoy your freedom!
Thanks Marcy, Steve is now checking out his old stomping grounds.
Nice post MonaLiza! We hope to get back to Acadia to do some hikes there.
I went back and read last years top 10 hikes too….thanks for sharing these great spots!
Gay thank you. And if you head back to Tucson on I10 you might try our number 3 from the last year, Picacho Peak. And you don’t have to go to the top if you don’t like cables still the views of the desert floor is awesome.
I can’t agree with you more Pam. Perhaps you will hit the Niagara Trail on your way to your moms. One day we will hit the Utah trails and enjoy them like you did. But for now we will settle for flat trails 😦
Although the east coast hikes cannot rival those in the west, these sure look interesting. Given our planned journey this year, hopefully we can follow along in your footsteps on a few of these. Happy second anniversary! 🙂
Weeee! The one I used for my Featured Image post made top spot. Cool! Also loved your waterfalls posts. Snow hike for you?
